How Hik-Connect
actually works.
Hik-Connect is the app on your phone. Set up properly it's the best thing about the system; set up badly it's the reason people ring us. Here's how it works and how to keep it working.

What it does
- Live view of every camera, single or grid
- Playback with a timeline and person/vehicle search on AcuSense systems
- Push alerts with a snapshot, per camera, with schedules
- Two-way audio and light/siren on supported cameras
- Sharing to family or staff with individual permissions
- Multiple sites in one account
How it connects
The recorder registers with Hikvision's cloud service using its serial and a verification code. Your phone talks to the cloud, which relays to the recorder — no port forwarding, no fixed IP needed. The recorder needs an internet connection; your phone needs data or Wi-Fi. Recording continues locally whether or not the internet is up.
Why it stops working
- New router: the recorder has a fixed IP from the old one, or the new router blocks its DNS. Most common call we get.
- Broadband down at the property: nothing to fix — it comes back.
- Recorder time wrong: the cloud rejects it. NTP set correctly fixes it.
- Firmware: very old recorder firmware can lose cloud compatibility.
Set-up that makes people keep notifications on
Per-camera alert schedules (drive at night, not all day), AcuSense zones drawn to the boundary, snapshot on every alert, and quiet hours. We do this on the day and show you how to change it.
Use a strong recorder password, enable two-step verification on the Hik-Connect account, and don't share the admin login — share cameras to individual accounts instead.
Your property decides. Not the logo.
